Our Mission

50501 Pittsburgh’s mission is to fight fascism in all of its forms. Our current, main focus is fighting back against the Trump administration’s attacks on our freedoms, but we recognize that the threat of authoritarianism is not unique to the current administration, nor is it unique to just the federal government. We have seen threats to our democracy come from both Democratic and Republican politicians alike at the federal, state, and local levels. We refuse to subordinate our activism to the convenience of any major political party, and will never advocate for candidates or policies that promote fascism in any form.

We believe that building community is imperative in the fight against fascism. We must find solidarity with our neighbors and remind the powers that be that we outnumber them. 50501 Pittsburgh makes every effort to build coalitions with other groups who are aligned with our mission, and we are dedicated to finding common ground that benefits the greater good while maintaining our own independent political positions and messaging.

What We Do

50501 Pittsburgh fights against fascism by organizing protests, marches, rallies, and other activities. We believe that these actions increase visibility, build numbers, and open pathways for ALL to join in this fight and make their voices heard. We are committed to participating in a nonviolent movement, and creating an environment in which EVERYONE feels safe participating. We will be present, we will be loud, and we will stand in solidarity with our neighbors.

We also recognize the importance of additional avenues of breaking down harmful systems - such as mutual aid, pop-up responses/actions, and social events that build true community. 50501 Pittsburgh makes efforts to lead these types of actions when possible, but also supports and follows the lead of other established groups with which we find political commonality who are experts in these areas.

Our Values

  • We will fight back against fascism and authoritarianism in all of its forms, and promote unity amongst all people regardless of party affiliations.
  • We will support our neighbors, give back to the community that we love, and stand in solidarity with marginalized communities.
  • We are committed to maintaining a peaceful movement where all of our neighbors are safe to show up, speak up, and fight with us.
  • We will use whatever platform the community gives us for the greater good - by advocating for positive change and uplifting other voices that are aligned with our mission.
  • We will never uncritically support any political party or candidate, and will never support a candidate who is not aligned with us simply because they are running on the ballot line of any particular party.
  • We reject colonialism around the world and believe that ALL people have a right to live safely on their own lands with access to basic human needs. This includes, but is not limited to, the genocide and struggle for liberation of the Palestinian people.
  • We reject racial and sexual discrimination in whatever form it may take, no matter who it affects, or how it is expressed, as we know it is one of the many tools used to divide us as a class.
  • We are pro-union and pro-labor. We give unequivocal support to all workers’ struggles to improve our lives.
  • We stand against the blatant over-policing of minority groups, mass incarceration, and the current American carceral system which empower law enforcement to criminalize us with impunity. It is our conviction that until each of us is treated fairly – and with due process and equal rights – then none of us are truly free.
